A Lifetime Fascination of Technology
Hello. My full name is Vico (Vick-Oh) Bertogli III. I was born and grew up in Kennett Square Pennsylvania. I lived in the Suburbs and had a lot of fun using my imagination while playing with friends.
My fascination with technology sparked in middle school when my family bought our first computer, an eMachines desktop. Even before we had dial-up internet, I was captivated by its potential. I dove into video games, which ignited my curiosity about what computers could do.
Once our internet connection stabilized, I embraced the digital world. I shifted from CD-based games to online gaming, marveling at the ability to connect with people worldwide in real time. The internet became my go-to for answering questions, shopping, and exploring endless possibilities.
This curiosity led me to programming. I started with a Java-like scripting language for mIRC, a popular IRC client. I built a bot that could join chat channels, packed with commands, games, and inside jokes. I was incredibly proud of that creation—it felt like bringing a piece of my imagination to life.
As my skills grew, I learned HTML to create a website for my gaming alliance, where members could plan events and connect. HTML was a departure from scripting, and while I enjoyed the challenge, I found myself drawn back to programming logic over web design.
In high school, I briefly stepped away from gaming to focus on personal growth. But in my junior year, a programming class reignited my passion. I deepened my Java knowledge, explored modern web development, and realized programming was more than a hobby—it was my future.
When choosing a career path, programming was the clear choice. By then, I’d already worked with freelance clients, which earned me a scholarship to the Art Institute of Philadelphia for Interactive Media & Web Design.
Four years later, I graduated, and I’ve never been happier. Following my passion for software development has shaped my life in ways I never imagined, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next.
